A 2006 blog comment thread about whether Barack Obama is the Antichrist (a serious discussion, that is, among people open to the possibility) is still going on. You can always skip down to comment #900 or #1200 or whatever; there's always something fresh coming along.

Reading a handful of those comments is sufficient to make me again wonder if democracy without (at minimum) something like a competence test on the specific issues or candidates being voted on is a remotely good idea.
I'm guessing that one of the reasons that governments in most of Western Europe tend to be considerably more sane than those is the US is in large part because the practice (at least in the better-run nations) of voting for parties rather than individuals tends to bypass some of the insanity that seems so much a part of most US elections.

Vintage 2004, actually, and nobody's more surprised than me that it's still getting comments.

Do you have any idea where that commenting community is coming from? Are they something like a random sample, or they weirder than most?

That post mostly draws people in from Google; they aren't regulars. So kind of a random sample, but definitely weirder than most.

Shit. They beat "Blog!"
Of course, I eventually close comments on "Blog" to save bandwidth. But still!
