I've had some story ideas following me around a good many years now. This morning I woke up with the sudden sense of how to pull out a coherent short story from one whose complete incarnation would have to be novel length. I'm 700 words into "Noise", and having a blast. Looks like it'll top out somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 words, give or take.

As with "Marking Time", it's a story of terrible, awful things happening to the protagonist, but I'm having a blast with it. It's peculiar how writing something so dismal can be so great for my mood and sense of well-being.
