At tor.com I explain how Asimov predicted the iPhone and have some fun describing iPhone apps in language fit for Campbell-era Astounding.

Tor blogging: Blizzcast and D&D Podcast reviewed

I've got my fifth podcast round-up posted over at tor.com - I offer my recommendations for Blizzcast (Blizzard's house podcast) and the D&D Podcast from our own [info]mearls and Dave Noonan, and wrap up with a rant about why I ended up not reviewing some independent computer gaming podcasts this time. Y'all go read.

Tor blogging: Podcast Roundup #3

We review podcasts when it's podcast-reviewing time. This week's entry says good things about two podcasts from folks in that Indie Press Revolution crowd, the official "Voice of the Revolution" and the individual "Master Plan". I'm really happy with both.

Podcast review #1 up at Tor

Just like it says. I review Paul Tevis' Have Games, Will Travel: For a Few Games More and Scott Johnson & Randydeluxe's The Instance, with download links. Paul covers roleplaying games and gaming in a remarkably useful, thoughtful, and compact way; The Instance is a glorious but well-structured romp through World of Warcraft matters.

(Side note to people who play tanks in WoW: the last 5 minutes or so of episode 115 of The Instance includes a Johnny Cash parody, "Aggro is Mine". Make it your theme song. Annoy the rest of your guild by playing it over voice!)

I really had fun with this first round-up. My chosen policy of focusing on things that interest and please me pays off in making traffic I'm happy to re-read.

A very enthusiastic tip of the hat to [info]mearls here, for inviting me to join in a new Facebook game. I started playing, got hooked, and invited more friends to share the fun. :) And now I have a review up at Tor.com. What a hoot this is.

Yonder, I review a really cool (though not flawless) computer version of Monopoly, with selected anecdotes of playing it with Mom. Enjoy.

Ah, the news is out. Patrick Nielsen Hayden has recruited me for an upcoming mult-author blog thing to be hosted by Tor Books. You can read about it in this introductory post, and find out how to sign up for free books to boot, and who doesn't like free books, I ask you?

I'm really looking forward to this. I'll be blogging about gaming, widely construed - roleplaying games, of course, but computer games, board games, whatever it seems like I can make a case for. Obviously some of you reading this are in a position to think a thought like, "Hey, I have a professional connection to something that science fiction/fantasy fans of eclectic taste would like to know about." I encourage you to act on that thought by pinging me, publicly or privately (bbaugh@mac.com is ready to take your mail). I already plan an interview with my old buddy Rob Heinsoo about this obscure project he's been working on lately for one of the small presses in the Seattle area, for instance. :)

I'm guessing that I'll end up writing a mix of reviews, interviews, random rants, commentary-type news, and the usual odds and ends. But we'll see how it goes - there's a definite air of inventing as we go with this, which makes me happy.
